"KILLING IN THE NAME" premieres in Amman
Dear GlobalSurvivorsNetwork -
Killing in the Name had its Middle East premiere in Amman, Jordan last night on the eve of the 5th commemoration of the Amman attacks. With survivors from Jordan, Indonesia, the United Kingdom and the United States in attendance, viewers came to see the 39-minute short documentary that was recently placed on the shortlist for an Academy Award nomination.
Earlier in the day, the film was screened at the Royal Film Commission for students from CMS, the Ahliyya School for Girls. The conversation that ensued was phenomenal, culminating in a commitment by the students to join with GSN to speak truth to terror, demonstrating the critical role that youth around the globe play in our effort to prevent future acts of terror. The film was also screened by diplomats in the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Today, survivors gathered for a candle-light vigil at the Memorial Garden to honor those killed and injured 5 years ago today in Amman, as well as those who have suffered at the hands of terrorists around the globe.
Later this week the film will have its London premiere and be screened in mosques and schools throughout the UK.
About the
Killing in the Name:
Killing in the Name features Ashraf Al-Khaled, a man who suffered an unthinkable loss when an Al-Qaeda suicide bomber walked into his wedding and killed his father and 26 others family members in front of his eyes on 9 November 2005.
Now, Ashraf is arising from horrific tragedy to break the silence in the Muslim community about this taboo subject and speaking out against terrorism.
Killing in the Name follows Ashraf’s quest to speak with victims and perpetrators and expose the true cost of terrorism. From an Al-Qaeda recruiter, to a militant behind one of the world’s worst terrorist attacks, to a madrassa full of boys ready for jihad, Ashraf takes us on a journey around the world to see if one man can speak truth to terror, and begin to turn the tide.
