Global Survivors Network - Speaking truth to terror

Waqar's Story

We heard the sound of an explosion. The building vibrated and we were worried.

On October 20, 2009, suicide bombs shook the Islamic University in Islamabad, first attacking a cafeteria near the girls' hostel and later attacking the Sharia and Law Department. Waqar Khalid was among those injured in the attacks. A student of the University for four years, Waqar's story is a powerful glimpse into the cruel and inhuman nature of terrorists and their misplaced violence on innocent students.

60% of my body was burnt...They were saying that I would expire within one hour.

Waqar's Story honors the victims of the suicide bombs through the voice of Waqar Khalid. Waqar recounts the details of the attacks from earlier that day when he and friends were attending class until the moment he was taken to the hospital. Waqar believes he has forever been changed by the events that occured in Islamabad that day. He wants to bring his message to the world so that others may not endure the same physical and emotional damage.

Until we stand up against this we will one by one all fall victim to this kind of terrorism.
